ANNUAL DINNER 12TH MARCH 2016
This years annual dinner was held at The Berkeley, Evesham Road, Spetchley, Worcester. In attendance
were WO1 RSM J Rollins, C/Sgt Sean Leach and Sgt Rich Joynes from the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment. It was good to see some new faces at the
dinner as well as the the regulars. The Dinner commenced with a short welcome speech by the
President of Worcester Branch WFRA, Richard Fox, welcoming our honoured guests to the new venue for
this years dinner. The Regimental March was played and this was followed by the Exhortation, a minutes
silence and then the Kohima Epitaph, delivered by Alan 'Kipper' Fish. After the meal a toast was offered to the
Queen and the Regiments.
WO1 RSM Jason Rollins was invited to make a speech, he talked the Mercian Regiment's current situation and
the close ties between serving soldiers and association veterans, with bonds to be formed
within the greater association. RSM Rollins then presented Worcester Branch with a framed picture of the
lineage and family tree of the Mercian Regiment.
Then Branch Chairman Harry Massam announced that there were two Association Merit Awards to be
presented. Branch President Richard Fox read out the citations one for Branch Secretary Maurice Smith, for
all his hard work and the planning of various events; devoting a lot of his time to the Branch and Association
making sure everything has run correctly. The citation for Nigel Fish was for his hard work behind the scenes
with the IT and helping with the organisaton of Branch events.
This was followed by the raffle which raised well over a hundred pounds and a photocall for the presentations.
Many Thanks on behalf of the branch members to Harry and Libby Massam for all thier hard work
organising the annual dinner, which was a thoroughly enjoyable night with good company and excellent food.
