1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters died on 29 April 2016 The funeral of Mrs Erica Housley is to take place

at the Chapel, Breaston Cemetery, Longmoor Lane, Breaston, Derbyshire DE72 3BB on Thursday 19 May

2016 at 1000 hours followed by a wake, to which all mourners are invited, at the Risley Hall Hotel, Derby

With regret we inform you that 22656272 Cpl Dennis Thomas WRIGHT aged 82yrs of St Johns Worcester passed peacefully

away in his chair mid morning of Friday 22nd April 2016.  On 22nd April 1952 Dennis was recruited into 1st Battalion

The Worcestershire Regiment at Worcester and went on to serve in Malaya in Support Company / Anti Tank .It is noted in his

discharge that he played football for the Battalion on several occasions.  Dennis was discharged from the 1st Battalion on 21st

April 1955 serving another 4yrs on reserve . Dennis worked in engineering at the Mecco works, Worcester for 26yrs then

proceeded in the building trade.
 
The funeral arrangements are for 12:30hrs Wednesday 11th May 2016 at St Clements Church, Henwick  Road, St Johns,

Worcester WR2 5NP.  Internment will be at St Johns Cemetery, Mcintyre Road, St Johns, Worcester WR2 5LQ. Standards and

Association members welcome.

It is with regret that we inform you that 23494261 LCpl Derek R BUFTON of St Johns, Worcester died on 19

April 2016 aged 77.  Derek enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment in November 1956 and when

it amalgamated with The Sherwood Foresters to become 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and

Sherwood Foresters Regiment he remained with it, serving until his discharge in November 1978.  His

funeral is to take place at Worcester Crematorium on Tuesday 10 May 2016 at 1215 hours.  Standards

With regret we inform you that 2265 (full No. to follow) Cpl Dennis Wright aged 82yrs of St Johns Worcester passed peacefully away in his chair

It is with sadness we inform you that 22909910 Pte Reginald Barry ADCOCK of Newark, Nottinghamshire

died on 13 April 2016 aged 80.  Barry was called up for National Service in 1953 and served at the Depot,

Normanton Barracks until January 1954.  He was then transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment and

served with it in Hong Kong and Korea.  He left the Army in 1957.  Barry was a long time member of the

Newark Branch WFRA and The RBL in Newark.  His funeral is to take place on Monday 25 April 2016 at

1415 hours at Christ Church, Boundary Road, Newark, Nottinghamshire NG24 4AJ followed by a celebration of

his life at the RAFA Club, 23 London Road, Newark NG24 1TN.  Standards welcome.

It is with regret we notify you that 4987104 CSgt (CQMS) Albert William Everitt GROCOCK of Newark,

Nottinghamshire died on 14 April 2016 aged 93.  Albert enlisted in 1942 into 1st Battalion The Sherwood

Foresters before being posted to the 2nd Battalion The Sherwood Foresters and served with it in Anzio,

Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.  In 1947 he was posted to the Depot, Derby before being

attached to 17 PTC in Leicester.  He left the Army in 1949.  Albert was a long time member and staunch

supporter of Newark WFRA.  His funeral service is to be held on Tuesday 3 May 2016 at 1200 hours at

Hawtonville Methodist Church, Beech Avenue, Newark NG24 4JN.  Family Flowers only. Donations may be

It is with regret that we inform you that 23553000 Pte Lawrence Raymond HEARNE of Coventry died on 27

February 2016.  Lol was called up for National Service in 1958 and posted to 1st Battalion The Sherwood

Foresters where he served in the Band. He left the Battalion in 1960 whilst serving in Malaya.  Lol was a

staunch member of Coventry Branch WFRA.

It is with sadness we notify you that Pte Denis Roy JAKEMAN of Wolverhampton died on 5 March 2016.

Denis served with 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment as a National Serviceman from April 1956 to

May 1958.  He saw service in the Caribbean, Belize, North Africa and BAOR.  On leaving the Army he served

with the TA until 1964.

It is with regret that we inform you that 14494033 Pte Michael Albert PALMER of Mapperley, Nottingham died

on 11 March 2016 aged 89.  Michael was posted into The Sherwood Foresters from the General Service

Corps in August 1943 and saw service in the UK, Germany and the Far East.  On leaving the Army in

1948 he took a commission with the TAVRA Cadet Force joining 1 Nottinghamshire Cadet Battalion The

Sherwood Foresters until August 1958.  In civilian life he worked in the transport and haulage business.

It is with sadness we inform you that 5258274 Sgt Harry HARRISON CBE of Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire

died on 12 March 2016.  Harry enlisted in June 1940 in 11th Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment and

served in C Coy.  When the 11th Battalion became 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment he remained

with it serving in North West Europe throughout World War 2.  He left the Army in 1946 and was later

awarded the CBE for his work in engineering.

It is with sadness that we notify you that 23547712 WO2 Peter WILTSHIRE of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

died on 3 April 2016 aged 73.  Peter enlisted as a boy soldier in 1958 and posted to 1st Battalion The

Sherwood Foresters in January 1961. In 1970 when it became The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters

Regiment he was serving as a Sgt at the Junior Trg Regt in Troon.  Peter went on to serve as a Pl Sgt and

Provost Sgt in Berlin before moving to the Recruiting Team at Worcester in 1975.  In 1977 he was CQMS in

Belize and Colchester, 1979 he became CSM then TQMS in Hemer before serving his last six months at

the Depot in Lichfield.  He left the Army in March 1983.

 It is with regret that we inform you that 23907982 Sgt Raymond John HENSHAW of Nottingham died on 25

March 2016 aged 71.  Ray enlisted into the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters and remained with it

on amalgamation.  He left in 1971 but re-enlisted shortly thereafter and served until 1988.  Funeral

details will be notified when known.

It is with regret we inform you that 14375398 Pte Ronald Herbert HICKMAN of Witney, Oxford died on 3

March 2016 aged 94.  Ron joined the 2nd/5th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters at Bizerta, Italy in August

1943 and served in B Coy.  He was wounded at Volturno and evacuated to North Africa. He was then

transferred to the Dorset Regiment in May 1946.  He was a founder member of the Oxfordshire Branch of

the Italy Star Association.  His funeral is to take place at St Mary's Church, Witney, Oxfordshire on Thursday

31 March 2016 at 1300 hours.

It is with deep regret that we inform you that 23472786 Sgt Clifford HOUSLEY of Sawley, Long Eaton,

Derbyshire died on 5 March 2016 aged 76. Cliff joined The Sherwood Foresters as a boy soldier in 1956 and

served in Malaya, Canada, Libya, Germany, Northern Ireland and UK. He accepted voluntary redundancy in

1969 on the amalgamation of The Sherwood Foresters with the Worcestershire Regiment when it formed The

Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment. After leaving the Army Cliff joined Nottinghamshire

Constabulary before becoming a Director of Carter's Soft Drinks Company. In 1996 he was appointed

Assistant Curator/Archivist of the Regimental Museum and was responsible for the complete overhaul of the

museum archives and artefact collection as well as rebuilding the Gallery in Nottingham Castle. He retired

in 2004 and was appointed as a Museum Trustee where he continued to work tirelessly to the benefit of the

Museum. He was the author of some 17 regimental history books and built and maintained a Sherwood

Foresters database of some 136,500 officers and soldiers of the regiment. Cliff was a stalwart member of

the Association Executive Committee and fundraised several thousand pounds for the Regimental Memorial

at Crich. He dedicated his life to the Regiment and will be sorely missed.  Funeral details will be promulgated

when known. For those wishing to write in condolence his eldest daughter is

It is with sadness that we inform you that 473034 Major Desmond F PAGE of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire

died on 2 March 2016 aged 81.  Desmond joined the 5th/8th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters in 1961

serving with it in Recce Platoon at Mansfield and then 2IC C Coy at Derby.  In 1971 he was appointed as OC

C Coy 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters.  He then went on to serve with

the Royal Anglian TA as OC Recruit Reception at Bury St Edmunds.  Funeral details will be promulgated when known.

It is with regret we inform you that 4977535 Pte Michael Vincent MURRY of Nottingham died on 8

February 2016.  Mick enlisted in 1939 into 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters and served with A Coy as a

driver.  He was taken PoW on the fall of Tobruk in June 1942 and became prisoner number 29999.  He was

initially held at Benghazi before being moved to Italy and then Germany.  He was held in various camps, last

known being Stalag 344 at Lamsdorf.  Mick worked in coal mines in Poland and was on the long march as the

Russians advanced.  He was repatriated in 1945 then transferred to the Royal Artillery Garrison Regiment

before transferring back to the Sherwood Foresters in July 1946. Mick was then discharged to the Reserve on

19 August 1946.  He was recalled and served in Korea with the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers 1950 - 51. 

Mick was a long time member and President of Nottingham City Branch WFRA.   His Funeral is to take

place at Wilford Hill Crematorium on Thursday 18 February 2016 at 0900 hours.  Standards welcome..

It is with sadness that we inform you that 23580147 Pte Kenneth (Ken) Edmund LEEK died on 16 January

2016.   Ken enlisted into the Catering Corps in August 1958 before joining the  1st Bn the Worcestershire

Regiment and served as a Regimental Cook, serving with them throughout his career, including in the West

Indies, until his discharge in August 1960.

The family have extended an invitation to the WFRA to attend the funeral:

Hereford Crematorium, Westfaling Street, Hereford HR4 0JE on Monday 8 February 2016 at 1200 hours.

It is with deep sadness I report the belated death of 23938785 Pte Thurston (Tez) TERRY who passed away in Pilgrims Hospice,

Canterbury on 1st August 2015 aged 73, the funeral was held at Charing crematorium, Ashford kent.

“Tez” joined the 1st Btn Worcestershire Regiment in September 1962 serving largely in the signal platoon, often involved in long

range HF and VHF communications utilizing both Voice and international morse code, in which he excelled, finishing his

service in September 1968, Tez served in Minden BAOR, Lydd, Dominica, Gibraltar, Tobruk North Africa, and Bulford.

He is survived by his loving wife Pili, and children Gary and Verina.

 It is with regret we inform you that 14714474 Pte Terence WHITE of Worksop, Nottinghamshire died on 4

December 2015 aged 90.  Terence enlisted  in 1943 and was badged General Service Corps.  On completion

of his recruit training he was posted to The Sherwood Foresters.  He then transferred to Kings Shropshire

Light Infantry in August 1944 then returned to The Sherwood Foresters in 1947 before leaving the Army in

January 1948.

It is with sadness that we inform you that 24312637 Pte Steven NEWBOLD of Burton on Trent died on 8

January 2016.  Steven enlisted in The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in 1973 and served

with B Coy.  He left the Army in 1976.  His funeral is to take place on 21 January 2016 at Bretby Crematorium,

Geary Lane, Bretby, Burton on Trent, Staffs DE15 0QE.  Standard Bearers would be appreciated by the family.

The memorial service for Colonel JD Reynolds MC who died on 7 November 2015 will be held in Worcester

Cathedral at 1430 hours on Wednesday 9 March.

DEC 2015

It is with regret that we inform you that Pte Terence White of Worksop died on 4 December 2015.  Terence

transferred to the Sherwood Foresters from the General Service Corps, and then transferred to Kings

Shropshire Light Infantry in August 1944. He transferred back to the Sherwood Foresters in January

1947, where he remained until his discharge in January 1948.

 Terence died in a care home and it is believed that he has little or no family members.  As he left his body to

medical science, there will be no funeral. However the Registrar will be holding a memorial service for him on

Friday 8th January at 2pm. It is to be held at The Victoria Suite, Worksop Registration Office, Memorial

Avenue, Worksop, S80 2BP.  All members of the Regimental Family, including Standards, are invited to attend.

It is with regret we inform you that 23527377 PTE Anthony George HAIL Passed away on 12th December

2015. George enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment on 20/08/1957 seeing service in the

Caribbean, after discharge from the Regiment on the 19/08/1960 George enlisted into the Reserves until

19/8/1964. After military service George became a jeweller in Birmingham and later going on to work in

engineering at Morganites of Worcester for 35 years.
Funeral is on Wednesday 30th December at 10:00hrs

It is with regret that we inform you that 24303208 LCpl Graham PITCHFORTH of Kidderminster died on 11

December 2015 aged 59. Graham enlisted into The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in

August 1972 and served until May 1987.

Capt G B TULLET OBE of Cutsey, Devon died on 16 December 2015 aged 74. Graham was commissioned

into The Worcestershire Regiment in 1962 and served in 1 Worc R in Minden and later in Bulford: also at

Depot Lichfield. He was seconded to the Trucial Oman Scouts in 1967 and after retiring from the army in

1968 served on contract in the Abu Dhabi Defence Force for 4 years. He then managed a very successful

company in India and while there worked tirelessly for the British Commonwealth Ex-Services League for

which he was awarded the MBE which in 2003 was advanced to OBE. The funeral will take place at 1200

hours on Wednesday 22 December 2015 at St Michael and Angels Church ANGERSLEIGH, Devon TA3 7SY. It

is just off the M5 near the Taunton Deane service station.

It is with regret that we report the death of Mrs Anne Cartwright, widow of Capt C Cartwright and mother of Major JC Cartwright WFR on 25 November 2015. The Funeral will take place at Worcester Crematorium, Tintern Avenue (off Astwood Road), Worcester  WR3 8HA at 10:45am on Friday 11 December.

(Family flowers only.  Collection and donations to St Richard's Hospice, if desired, please).

After the service, the family would be delighted to see everyone at The Chapter House, Worcester Cathedral for a bite to eat and a chance to catch up with old friends.  Entrance is via College Green and The Chapter House is located off the Cathedral Cloisters.

It is with regret that we inform you that 22849455 Pte Derek SHERWOOD (formerly EWART) of Derby died on

7 November 2015 aged 75.  Derek enlisted into 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters in 1957 and served

with it in Malaya, Singapore, Northern Ireland, UK, Cyprus, Libya, Canada and Germany and left the

Regiment in 1970.

 The funeral of Derek SHERWOOD (formerly EWART) who died on 7 November 2015 is to take place on

Tuesday 24 November 2015 at 0900 hours at Markeaton Crematorium.  The family have requested

no floral tributes but donations to Crich Memorial Tower Fund.

It is with regret that we inform you that
Col JD Reynolds MC of Worcester died on 7 Nov 2015.

He enlisted in the Worcestershire Regt in 1940, volunteered for service with 3 Commando, took part in

raids on the Norwegian coast before being commissioned in 1942. On return to 3 commando he

served in N Africa and the Sicily landing where his platoon captured a bridge. He then landed in Italy in

advance of the invasion and, despite being attacked , sent back valuable information for the invasion force

for which he was awarded the MC for displaying "leadership, a disregard for danger and an excellent

example". He was later wounded in Italy and on recovery rejoined 3 Commando in Normandy and took

part in river crossings on the Rhine, Aller and Elbe. After the war he joined 1st Bn the Worcestershire Regt

 in Trieste, Pola and in Berlin during the Airlift. After the Staff College he served in Canada, then in Jamaica

with the Regiment before being appointed the last Commanding Officer of the Regimental Depot at

Norton, followed by a tour with the Aden Protectorate Levies. On promotion in 1962 he commanded 3

Cheshire (TA) followed by staff appointments in Hong Kong and Kuwait. In retirement he served as

regimental welfare officer.

The funeral of Colonel JD REYNOLDS MC who died on 7 November 2015 is for family and close friends only and

will be held at St Thomas Church, Bromyard Road, Crown East, Worcester WR52 5TU at 1130 hours on

Monday 23 November 2015. A memorial service will be held later.

It is with regret that we inform you that 23916176 Pte Dennis Edward POWELL passed away suddenly on

Wednesday 4th  November 2015.  Dennis enlisted into The Worcestershire Regiment on the 10th January

1963.  Dennis served at Gibraltar, Tobruk and Cyprus, serving with the Anti Tank Platoon and the Regimental

Recruitment Team. Dennis was a keen footballer and a good all round sportsman.   After nine years service

Dennis left the regiment on the 6th January 1972 and spent three years in the Territorial Army in Silver Street , Worcester.
 

Dennis` funeral will take place at 10:00hrs on the 18th November at Astwood Crematorium, Tintern Avenue,

Astwood Road, Worcester. WR3 8EB. Standards and Association members Welcome.

2015 aged 66.  Steve enlisted in 1976 with 3WFR and served with HQ and E Coy.  He was discharged in 1988

after 12 years service. His funeral will be on Tuesday 3rd November 2015 at 1450 hours at Brimington

Jim served in the ranks Pte to WO 2 at Nottingham University OTC 1950 to 1959, Private The Royal

Leicestershire Regiment, 1959 to 1960: Commissioned 2nd Lt 1st Battalion The Hampshire Regiment 5

November 1960, Lt 5/8th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters 30 June 1961 and with them to 1967, Lt

Prince of Wales Own Volunteers 1967-68, Lt The Queens Regiment (Liverpool) 1968, Capt Royal Artillery

LAA (TAVR III) Widnes 1968-69, Lt Lancastrian Volunteers, Preston, 1969-1972.

The Committal Service will take place at Bramcote Crematorium Serenity Chapel on Monday 19th October

at 1145 hours followed by a Memorial Service at St Leonard's Church Wollaton at 1245 hours. All Welcome.

It is with regret that we inform you that 22435117 Private Ronald James JUKES of Birmingham died on 5

October 2015 aged 83 years. Ron was called up as a National Serviceman in November 1950 and served

with the RASC until May 1951 when he transferred into the 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters in Germany.

He completed his service on 30 November 1952. Ron was the Standard Bearer for Birmingham Branch and

when that Branch went into suspended animation he continued to carry the Standard at the Annual

Pilgrimage to Crich and many other events. His funeral is to take place on Monday 19 October 2015 at Rowley

Regis Crematoriam, Powke Lane, Rowley Regis, West Midlands B65 0AD at 1345 hours. Family flowers only.

It is with sadness that we inform you that 5254616 Pte Edgar MERREY of Sudbury, Derbyshire died on 22

August 2015 aged 97. Edgar served with the 7th Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment during WW2

and took part in the Battle of Kohima in 1944. He also served in Egypt and survived when his ship was

torpedoed in the Mediterranean Sea by Italian Dive Bombers. In his later years he has been to

Kidderminster and Worcester several times. His funeral is to take place on Wednesday 9 September 2015 at

Nottingham died on 31 August 2015 aged 77.  Chalky enlisted into 1st Battalion The Sherwood Foresters in

January 1959 and served with it until 1965.  He was with D Coy 12 Pl and also carried out duties of Arms

Storeman.  Chalky saw service in Malaya, Cyprus, N Ireland and Colchester. His funeral is to take place at

Bramcote Crematorium, Coventry Lane, Bramcote, Nottingham NG9 3GJ on Monday 21 September 2015 at

He was called up as a National Serviceman in 1952 and after basic training joined 1st Bn The Worcestershire

Regt in Malaya. On the battalion's return to UK he spent the last few months of his service at Bulford. The

It is with sadness we inform you that Kenneth William Baddeley of Paignton, Devon died on 25 July 2015 aged

96. He joined the Suffolk Regt in November 1939, served at the Worcestershire Regiment Depot and after

basic training became an instructor there and later at HQ Western Command before being commissioned into

the Worcestershire Regt in 1944. He joined the 1st Battalion in Normandy in July, was wounded by shell

fire on 4 August and evacuated. After recovering he was released in December 1945. The funeral has taken

15 August 2015 aged 84.  Bryan was called up for National Service on 5 May 1949 and after training was

posted to the Royal Army Education Corps at Chilwell as a Sgt in December 1949.  On leaving the Army he

joined the TA as a Sgt and between 1951 and 1959 served with; 66 AA FC Tp RA TA at Walthamstow, 58

AA FC Tp RA TA at Derby, 262 HAA Regt RA TA at Derby, 438 LAA Regt RA TA at Derby before being

commissioned in 1959. He then served with 140 Engr Regt RE TA at Derby, 2IC and OC 438 (DA) Fd Sqn RE

TA at Derby, OC B Coy Derby Foresters TAVR at Derby, 73 Engr Regt RE (V) at Derby, OC RHQ Tp 73 Engr

Regt RE (V) at Nottingham, 2IC B Bty 3 Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters(V) at Beeston,

OC D Coy 3 WFR (V) at Beeston, Trg Major 3 WFR (V) at Newark and OC HQ Coy 3 WFR (V) at Newark.

 Bryan retired in 1988 but continued his links with 3 WFR (V) as the long time treasurer of 3 WFR (V)

Association and was instrumental in forming the 3 WFR Branch of WFRA as well as filling the post of President

of Long Eaton Branch WFRA

It is with sadness we inform you that Charles Derek BOWRING of Derby died on 18 July 2015 aged 94.

Derek was commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters on 1 October 1944 and served during the latter part of

WW2 in the Far East with the 1st Punjab Regiment .He was the son of Major Edward Langley Bowring DSO

who was commissioned into The Worcestershire Regiment in 1901 and served with it during the Boer

War, he also served with it during WW1 and after the war served with The Sherwood Foresters before retiring in 1925.

    It is with regret we inform you that Pte 14377539 William Arthur GOUGH died on 11 June 2015 aged 91

years.  Arthur joined 1st Battalion the Worcestershire Regiment in 1943 and fought with the

battalion in Normandy in the Caen battles including Hill 112, Mont Pincon and Berjou.  He was at Vernon

for the Seine crossing and in the advance into Holland and Germany. He was a Dispatch Rider and following a

motor cycle accident in early 1945 was discharged later that year.  His funeral was held at St. Michael's Church,

St. Michaels, near Tenbury Wells at 1200 hrs on Monday 29 June.

It is with sadness we inform you that 23626688 Pte Brian Frederick BAYLIS passed away in hospital on

Thursday 7th May 2015, after a seven year illness.  Brian enlisted into the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire

Regiment on the 4th June 1959,  he went on to serve at  Kingston, Jamaica, September 1959.  British

Honduras, October 1959.  Norton Barracks, February 1960.  British Honduras, 'Hurricane Hattie', November

1961.   Norton Barracks, December 1961.   Sandhurst  'Demo Platoon', May 1962.   Discharged 12th August

1962.  In civilian life Brian Qualified as a Master Bricklayer and also served with the Home Service Force

at Kidderminster. Brian joined Bromsgrove Branch, becoming Branch Secretary. After the closure of that

Branch Brian became a member of Worcester Branch, but due to failing health he was unable to attend the last year.
 

Funeral will be held at 13:15hrs 22nd May 2015 at Redditch Crematorium and Abbey Cemetery, Bordsley

on 27 April 2015 aged 58. Narb enlisted into The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment on 1

September 1972 and completed postings and tours in the UK, Germany, NI, Cyprus and Belize. Following his

discharge in 1993, he worked in the pub and hotel management trade before finding his niche working

It is with regret we inform you that 4987582 Sgt Harry COLLINS of Leicester died on 20 March 2015 aged 91.  

Harry enlisted into 2nd/5th Battalion The Sherwood Foresters in June 1942 before transferring to the

Northamptonshire Regiment in November 1942.  He subsequently transferred back to the 2nd/5th Battalion

The Sherwood Foresters in July 1943 joining them at Salerno in September of that year where he served

with D Coy at the Crossing of The Volturno before joining the Mortars Pl.  He took ill and was hospitalised

in Palestine where on release from hospital was posted to the 2nd Battalion The Sherwood Foresters where he

remained until being discharged to the Reserve in July 1947.  After leaving the Army he was employed as a

Sheet Metal Worker until he retired.  His funeral took place on 2 April 2015 at Gilrose Cemetery, Groby Road,

Leicester LE3 9QG at 1045 hours.  Donations in memory to British Heart Foundation. Letters of

Royal Hospital on the 19th of March 2015.  Lawrence enlisted into the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire

Regiment on the 20th September 1951.  Lawrence Served in Malaya as a signaller and was discharged on

the 17th September 1953.  He started civilian life as a carpet fitter for Francis` of Malvern, then going on to

work as a subcontractor until retirement.

30194627 PTE J L SAWYER ROYAL LOGISTIC CORPS.

30194627 Private J L Sawyer died in Cyprus on Thu 12th Mar 2015. Pte Jay Sawyer was a Royal Logistic

Corps Chef attached to 2 Mercian. The soldiers of The 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment Battlegroup are

serving operationally with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, and are based in the

capital city Nicosia. While he was conducting Adventure Training in the Mediterranean Sea he was involved in a

tragic and fatal canoeing accident.

Pte Dean Cauldley died at the Marie Curie Cancer Centre in Belfast on Thursday 12 March 2015 at

2355hrs. Pte Cauldley was a casualty on HERRICK 10 with a life changing injury. He  overcame this to return

back to work in the 2 Mercian Quartermasters Department. In April 14,  Pte Cauldley was diagnosed

with cancer, which he was receiving treatment for in Belfast.

 It is with sadness we inform you that 412078 Maj Robert Basil SULLIVAN-TAILYOUR of Sutton Veny,

Warminster died on 24 February 2015 aged 84.  Robert attended Eaton Hall OCS and Mons OCS in 1948 before

being commissioned into the Sherwood Foresters in 1950.  He joined the 1st Battalion in BAOR and in 1952

was appointed Pl Comd of Anti Tank Platoon in Egypt before being posted to the Depot in 1953.  He went on

to serve with the Kings African Rifles as OC HQ Coy in East Africa in 1955.  He then became an instructor at

Mons OCS before returning to the 1st Battalion in Malaya in 1960.  Between 1963 - 1966 he was a

student at the German Staff College before returning to the 1st Battalion as a Coy Comd.  In 1968 he was

posted to HQ BAOR as GSO 2 before being appointed 2IC 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood

Foresters Regiment in 1970.  Robert then had various Staff Appointments before leaving the Army in 1978.

 There will be a private family funeral and a Service is to be held in Sutton Veny in April, details of which will

be notified when known.

Ex Pte Bradley PAUL who joined the 1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment and deployed to Afghanistan in

October 2012 where as the front man of his patrol, every day he carried the weight of responsibility for the

lives of his comrades on his shoulders every time he stepped out the gate. Unfortunately on 9 November

2012 Pte Paul he was struck by an IED and sustained life changing injuries. However, through strength of

character and with the love of those around him, he made a good recovery. Sadly, he passed away on

Tuesday 17 February 2015.  As Pte Paul is no longer a serving soldier, his funeral costs will be paid for

through non public funds only.  His family have set up a Go Fund Me web page at

 http://www.gofundme.com/bradpaul  Any funds remaining after the funeral will be given to Combat

Stress and put in a Trust for his younger brotheer as an equal split.

on 14 January 2015.  Wayne enlisted in 1972 with the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood

Foresters Regiment and left the Army in 1992. He served in NI where he suffered minor injuries in a bomb

blast and he also served in Belize where he was in HQ Coy MT Pl.

The funeral of Wayne Shillam will take place on Saturday 31st January at Bramcote Crematorium. It

It is with sadness we inform you that Major S G Goodman of Lyonshall, Herefordshire died on 9 January

aged 101. He enlisted in The Worcestershire Regt in 1933, served in Plymouth with 1 Worc R and China and

India with 2 Worc R rising to be RQMS by 1942. From 1944-52 he served in RQMS appointments in Norway,

UK and with 1 Para in Germany before being commissioned in 1953. He then served as QM of the

Gold Coast Regt, from 1958 with 1 Worc R in Jamaica and spent his last 7 years service as QM 7 Worc R. His

funeral will take place at Hereford Crematorium at 1215 hours on 24 January which would have been his 102nd

aged  86.  CSgt Pool joined 3rd Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment in

peacefully in his sleep at 05.00 Hrs on Monday 15th December 2014 in Nottingham City Hospital.  He may

not have any surviving Family so there are no details for the funeral as yet, but as soon as they are known

we will let you know.  Reg joined 73 Engineer Regiment (V) on its formation in 1969 at Wigman Road Drill Hall,

Bilborough before transferring to D. (Robin Hood Foresters) Company 3rd Battalion Worcestershire and

Sherwood Foresters Regiment at the same location in May 1971, then moving with D. Company 3 WFR in

1975 to Broadgate Drill Hall, Beeston where he continued to serve until discharged in May 1981.

December 2014 aged 83.  Derek was called up for National Service in 1949 and served with The

It is with great sadness that we inform you that 419699 Maj (Retd) Kenneth Charles Frederick BOWMER

TD of Ashbourne, Derbyshire died on 7 September 2014.  Ken was commissioned into the 5th Battalion

The Sherwood Foresters Territorial Force on 10 June 1951 and to the TA Reserve of Officers in 1960.  He

was Chairman of the Derby Branch for well in excess of 30 years and latterly was Branch President. His funeral

is to take place on Thursday 18 September 2014 at 1230 hours at Hulland Church followed by committal at

1340 hours at Markeaton Crematorium, Derby.

neighbours had been like a family to him and his late wife Joyce for many years.  Major Bowmer asked  Mr

and Mrs Poxon prior to going into the care home to take control of his affairs as he was unable to do so. It

would be nice if anyone sending a card could write inside something like "To the friends of Kenneth

Bowmer" as that his how they knew him.

It is with regret we inform you that 23928826 WO2 Roy BURNAGE of Wythenshaw, Manchester died on 5

September 2014 aged 74.  Roy enlisted into The Sherwood Foresters in 1962 and went on to serve with

the 1st Battalion The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters and the Long Service List before leaving the

Army in 1995.

His funeral is to take place at Southern Cemetery, Barlow Road, Manchester M21 7GL on Monday 15

September 2014 at 1130 hours.

It is with sadness we inform you that Major FA ROWLEY CMG, OBE, MC died on 28 July aged 92. He

enlisted in the Worcestershire Regiment as a boy in 1938, was commissioned in 1941 and while

commanding a company in the Baluch Regiment was seriously wounded and awarded the MC in Burma. He

later had a distinguished career in the Diplomatic Service. His father served in the Regiment before

WW2 and his brother was killed in action with 1 Worc R in Malaya.  His funeral is to be a private one

with a Memorial Service to be held at a later date.

August 2014 aged 73.  John served with 3 WFR (V) and transferred to the Royal Engineers in 1992

before rejoining 3 WFR HSF.  His funeral is to be held on 22 August 2014 at 1100 hours in St Marks

Church, Mansfield followed by committal at Mansfield Crematorium at 1145 hours.

It is with regret we inform you that 22946146 CSgt Arthur John LAMBERT of Kidderminster died on 17 July

2014 aged 78.  Arthur served with 1st Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment and The Worcestershire and

Sherwood Foresters Regiment and completed his engagement on 17 December 1982.

Arthur's funeral will be on Monday 28 July 2014 at 1200 hours at Wyre Forest Crematorium and Cemetery,

Minster Road, Stourport on Severn, Worcestershire DY13 8DE.

Afterwards at The Kidderminster Masonic Centre (The Kidderminster Cricket Club Ground), Chester Road

North, Kidderminster DY10 1TH to which all are invited.

It is with regret that we inform you that 23451144 Cpl Maurice SMITH of Alfreton, Derbyshire died on 5 July

2014 aged 77.  Maurice was called up as a National Serviceman into The Sherwood Foresters on 6

February 1958 and served with 5 Pl B Coy. He served in Malaya and was engaged in operations Badak,

Ginger and Saddleup.  He completed his service on 4 February 1960. Funeral details will be promulgated

when known.

It is with sadness we inform you that 357952 Col John Anthony CASTLE of Frankston, Victoria, Australia died

on 7 July 2014.  He served in the ranks 1 year 198 days before receiving an Emergency Commission as

2nd Lt on 17 November 1945 in The Rifle Brigade. In 1947 he transferred to The Sherwood Foresters. In

1950 he was posted as an Instructor at Eaton Hall OTC until 1952 when he returned to the 1st Battalion The

Sherwood Foresters as Adjutant. In 1954 he posted as SCA HQ 25 Armd Bde MELF until 1955. He was then

posted as Adjutant Regimental Depot 1955-1956 and this was followed by SCA HQ 2 (BR) Corps Suez 1956

to 1957.  In 1957 he returned to the 1st Battalion as a Coy Comd 1st Bn The Sherwood Foresters until

attending Staff College in 1959. He then returned as a Coy Comd 1st Bn 1963 to 1964 (UK), 2i/c 1st Bn 1964-

65: MA MEA HQ FARELF 1965 to 1967: Lieut-Col. 30.6.1967: CO 1st Bn BAOR 1967 to 1969: AAG HQ

POW Div (UK) 1969 to 1973: Col 1973: Comd BATUS Canada 1973 to 1975: Retired February 1976.
